Toy used in summer reading program recalled
PIERRE, S.D. - A children's toy, used as an incentive in a summer reading program, has been recalled. Highsmith Inc. is recalling the Bendable Cat and Dog toy sold to at least 22 South Dakota libraries for the Paws, Claws, Scales and Tails program. Tests done on the toy indicated the lead content to be in excess of the maximum allowable by current federal regulations.
Highsmith has discontinued sale of this item and recommends all libraries cease distribution of any remaining Bendable Cats and Dogs. To properly dispose of the Bendable Cat and Dog, Highsmith requests that all customers contact them at 1-800-448-4887 to arrange for return shipment and to receive a credit or refund for the product cost.
Families should contact their local health care provider with concerns regarding exposure to lead in the product.
