Kirby recognized for service to libraries
PIERRE, S.D. — Colleen Kirby, continuing education coordinator at the South Dakota State Library, was awarded the South Dakota Library Association's Distinguished Service Award at the group's annual awards banquet Sept. 25 in Chamberlain.
“The Distinguished Service Award honors a library association member who has made notable contributions to the library profession, including performing exemplary service for an extended period of time,” said State Librarian Dan Siebersma. “Colleen Kirby has committed her professional life to furthering the pursuit of knowledge and information. She has worked to support librarians across the state and to serve patrons directly. She has been of great service to the people and libraries of this state.”
Kirby is well respected in the library community for her knowledge of copyright and technical services. In her many years at the South Dakota State Library and previously, while at Black Hills State University, she has had the opportunity to teach many of the librarians in South Dakota how to catalog. She has also been active in state and regional library associations, serving on committees and as president of the South Dakota Library Association in 2000.
Kirby was selected by a committee of librarians.
A reception in honor of Kirby will be held at the South Dakota State Library on Monday, Sept. 29, 4:15-5 p.m.
