Black Hills Area Rural Librarians get-together

The third meeting of the Black Hills Rural Librarians was hosted by the Sturgis Public Library on March 15. The purpose of the group is to discuss issues relevant to serving rural communities and to share programming ideas. Daria Bossman, Assistant State Librarian, gave a wonderful presentation entitled “Getting Out of the Box – Becoming an Essential Service for our Communities” and promoted other State Library services. Julie Erickson was also on hand to answer questions about the databases and training opportunities. Paula DeMars, Hill City Library Director and President-Elect of SDLA, led a discussion concerning planning the 2011 SDLA Convention in Spearfish. Lunch was provided by the Sturgis Friends of the Library. The group has previously met at Hill City and Hot Springs; the June meeting will be in Spearfish. The meetings conclude with library tours and the customary “fireplace” picture.
