Library of Congress National Book Festival attracts 150,000
Setting a new attendance record, an estimated 150,000 book-lovers gathered on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. for the 10th Annual National Book Festival. The festival is organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress, with Honorary Chairs President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Librarian of Congress James H. Billington and David M. Rubenstein, who this year gave the festival a $5 million gift, are co-chairs of the new National Book Festival Board. This gift has helped cement the festival for the next few years.

Two sisters from New Jersey won a set of Little House Books
Festival-goers celebrated creativity and imagination with their favorite authors, illustrators and poets in standing-room-only pavilions. South Dakota was represented in the Pavilion of States tent this year by Jeannette Chaney Moody and her husband John from the Deadwood Public Library and Kathleen Slocum from the State Library. Information from SD Tourism, Ingalls Homestead Museum in De Smet, Game Fish & Parks, Sturgis Motorcycle Committee and the SD Humanities Council was distributed. Two sisters from New Jersey won the Laura Ingalls Wilder Series donated by the Ingalls Homestead Museum. They were so excited to get home and share them with friends. Thousands of people stopped by the booth to share personal stories of visiting SD, living in SD and about their future plans to visit the state. Visit the following Web site to see the webcasts on the festival homepage www.loc.gov.
