Children’s Book Week

If you haven’t already started planning for your Children’s Book Week, there’s still time! CBW is May 7-13 this year. The CBW website has lots of tools and ideas for you to use to create a special and fun week. You can also celebrate the newly minted YARP/South Dakota Teen Choice Book Award or the Prairie Bud and Prairie Pasque Award winners!

Week of the Young Child

This year April 22 – 28 is the Week of the Young Child (naeyc.org) with the theme “Early Years Are Learning Years.” Inspire your youngest citizens with some storytimes, puppet shows and books just for them! For more ideas you can use the Early Literacy portion of your CSLP manual or check out the Center for Early Literacy Learning website (earlyliteracylearning.org).

Jump Start takes on a blizzard

It wouldn’t be Jump Start if the weather didn’t threaten something severe, but the intrepid Jump Start team persevered! Workshops in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Yankton were held successfully on the originally scheduled dates, with the Pierre and Watertown workshops being rescheduled for the very end of March. Pictures and PDFs of ideas presented will be posted on the SDSL’s Facebook page and the Jump Start website respectively after the last workshop. Thank you once again to all our fantastic host libraries; the South Dakota Discovery Center for providing the afternoon sessions; and the invaluable Karen Duenwald (SDSL), Ali Bruinsma (Brookings Public Library), and Becky Pittenger (Yankton Community Library) for their enthusiastic and priceless presentations. Good luck with all your summer reading preparations!
