Free e-books for kids – no ereader needed

The Pearson Foundation brings many classic and well-known children's books to life as e-books. Anyone can access them from a computer completely free at www.wegivebooks.org. You'll find authors such as Rosemary Wells, Nancy Carlson, Ezra Jack Keats, and many more.

Last month for YARP votes

Young Adult Reading ProgramSouth Dakota teens have only one month left to vote for their favorite title from the YARP/SD Teen Choice Book Award list! Voting closes April 1 at midnight. For a list of the titles or to vote go to library.sd.gov today!

Prairie Bud and Prairie Pasque

It's time for students to vote for the SD Children's Awards, the Prairie Bud (grades K-2) and Prairie Pasque (grades 3-5) Awards. All SD students in grades K-5 who have read or have had read to them at least five of the titles on the list appropriate for their grade level are eligible to vote. Voting (online only) concludes March 31; winning titles will be announced during National Library Week in April. Please submit student votes through your librarian (or a designated teacher) by the deadline on March 31. Vote at library.sd.gov.

CSLP Committee Membership

The Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) wants you on one of its committees. All of the work that CSLP accomplishes throughout the year is done by groups of librarians just like you from all over the U.S. South Dakota needs more representation in CSLP, so please consider joining a CSLP committee – work is minimal, yet rewarding. Pick from one or more of the following:

  • Early Literacy Manual
  • Children's Manual
  • Teen Manual
  • Adult Manual
  • Website
  • Vendor Relations
  • PR & Marketing
  • Budget & Finance
  • Membership
  • Copyright & Rules of Use
  • Diversity

To learn more about these committees go to cslpreads.org and log in with your membership information (it's free and easy). To sign up for a committee, contact Jasmine Rockwell (email) by April 12.
